Owned and operated by Jerry Slater, Atlanta’s H. Harper Station is an American cocktail institution, responsible for the invention of a range of new and exciting drinks. But perhaps the most famous creation Slater is now known for is his contemporary, bourbon-based cocktail, the Bufala Negra.
Blending a couple iconic Italian flavours (balsamic vinegar and fresh basil) with bourbon, brown sugar and ginger ale, Slater has added his own American touch to the offerings by producing a drink that obscurely makes the most of sweet, tart, floral and rich tastes. We think it’s a creative invention worth telling you all about, and since it’s easy to make, why not? So next time you’re feeling overly creative, simply whip yourself up a Bufala Negra and raise your glass to Jerry Slater. You’ll need:
Add the bourbon, vinegar, sugar syrup, basil leaves and plenty of ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into an ice filled glass and top with dry ginger ale. Finish by garnishing with a sprig of basil.
