Cape Verde Cocktail


Tall glass


  • 100ml white rum
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Crushed ice


  1. Cut lemon into small wedges and, using a pestle and mortar, squash the lemon until most of the juice has come out. This can be done directly in a tumbler glass.
  2. Add half the lemon to each glass along with a teaspoon of sugar and then fill almost to the top of the glass with crushed ice.
  3. Add 50ml rum per glass.
  4. Give the cocktail a good mix until the sugar has dissolved and the ice has melted slightly.
  5. Top up with more crushed ice and serve
